"Art is not what you see, but what you make others see." -Edgar Degas
I began this semester having not taken ceramics since freshman year. I was super nervous but super excited when I started my second art semester. I began by hand building, which reminded me I didn’t like it. I then started throwing again, and like anything, I had good days and bad days. My first piece that I was proud of was my teapot. I made two matching cups using the same glazing technique. Once that set was finished, I began experimenting with slabs, which I liked, but they were nothing special. After seeing one of my peer’s bowls, I became interested in faceting. I threw 3 bowls slightly thicker than usual and waited until they were leather hard. I used a knife tool to facet the outside after trimming. Once bisque fired, I decided to take a risk and try a glaze on all 3 bowls that I had never tested or seen before. It ended up coming out amazing and I’m so glad I took that risk. I really wanted my bowls to have an elegant, classy look to them, and I really think I achieved that. In the future, I plan to take ceramics studio workshop again and continue progressing my skills.
